Our Story

Founders

We are Tawee and Beth Donchai - a Thai/Canadian couple with proven experience to create positive change in the nonprofit world.

In 2018, we relocated our small family from Tawee's hometown of Chiang Rai, Thailand back to Beth's hometown in London, Ontario, Canada. Despite moving to a new context, our hearts remained in Northern Thailand among the communities in which we lived and worked.  We began to dream of how we might continue to help strengthen communities like these who were vulnerable to issues caused by poverty.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, we found ourselves with some extra time to devote to this dream.  Though it seemed like an uncertain time to start a business, we found a great deal of support and interest to begin our social enterprise.

We want to thank Pillar Nonprofit Network and the Libro Social Enterprise Incubator for their guidance, support and networking opportunities as we found our footing in establishing Sustenance Trading Co.

But most of all, we want to express our gratitude to our first artisan partner, Worn Donchai of Worn ECO Creations.  Your efforts and innovation inspire us to not only talk about a better future, but actually step out and take action.  Thank you.
